Cancer patient: Foshan’s Inspires Community Kindness Through Meal Delivery Service
A 24-year-old cancer patient in Foshan, China, known as Little Li, made a heartfelt request for two hours of companionship through a meal delivery service while battling a rare blood cancer. Feeling isolated during her treatment, she reached out for emotional support.
After her appeal went viral on social media, numerous delivery riders stepped up to offer their help. Many riders adjusted their schedules to visit Li, bringing along comforting items such as milk, snacks, stuffed toys, and books.
Li’s family situation added to her loneliness. Her brother is busy with an internship, and her father works overseas to cover medical expenses. “Li does not have any family with her all the time,” said one local supporter.
The first rider who fulfilled her request shared it with a local rider club, prompting even more volunteers to reach out. Huang, a rider from Guangzhou, traveled three hours just to comfort Li after hearing about her story. “I felt sympathy and empathy, so I wanted to visit her,” he explained.
Additionally, Wang, a 60-year-old cancer survivor, sent flowers and shared her resilience with Li. “I once had gracious patrons who greeted me and handed me water. I now wish to assist people in return,” Huang said.
Before making the companionship request, Li had undergone her fourth round of chemotherapy and was discharged from the hospital on April 20. Her condition has since stabilized.
This touching story highlights the emotional struggles faced by cancer patients during treatment and showcases the incredible kindness that can emerge from community connections. What began as a straightforward yet unique order evolved into a string of visits from delivery personnel who volunteered to provide consolation and assistance.
