Vaping Incident In Dressing Room Sparks Controversy for Riyan Parag
On April 29, 2026, during an IPL match against the Punjab Kings, Riyan Parag was caught vaping in the Rajasthan Royals’ dressing room. This incident has sparked significant controversy and could result in disciplinary action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The match took place at Mullanpur, where Rajasthan Royals secured a victory by six wickets, chasing down a target of 223 runs. However, the focus quickly shifted from their triumph to Parag’s actions that violated BCCI guidelines.
Vaping is strictly prohibited within IPL stadium premises, except in designated smoking zones. The BCCI has made it clear that they will seek an explanation from Parag regarding this incident. A BCCI official stated, “We will be seeking an explanation from Riyan on this issue, as vaping is not allowed.”
Under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), enacted in 2019, e-cigarettes are banned throughout India. Violating this law can lead to imprisonment for up to one year and/or a hefty fine of ₹one lakh.
Parag was seen vaping in front of teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel, raising concerns about setting a poor example for younger players. Another BCCI official remarked, “A player can be fined or disciplined for violating the rule regarding tobacco or tobacco-based products in dressing rooms.”
The incident has drawn attention online and among cricket fans. Many are discussing the implications of such behavior in professional sports. The visuals have certainly captured the attention of the BCCI.
Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder faced fines for using a mobile phone in the dugout, indicating that the BCCI is serious about maintaining discipline within teams.
The next steps depend on Parag’s response to the BCCI’s inquiry. The league’s strict regulations aim to ensure a healthy environment for players and fans alike.
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures regarding tobacco or tobacco-based products within team settings.
