Weather Today: Extreme Heat Hits Delhi and Other States
Today, Delhi is facing a maximum temperature of 40°C, part of a broader trend of extreme heat affecting several states across India. As temperatures soar above 40°C in urban areas, the northern hills are experiencing intermittent rainfall and even possible snowfall.
In Hyderabad, residents can expect a maximum temperature of 41°C accompanied by dry heat and gusty winds. Meanwhile, Kolkata will see moderate rain chances with a maximum temperature of 34°C, providing some relief from the oppressive heat.
Chennai is forecasted to reach 35°C with isolated coastal showers, while Rajasthan suffers from extreme heat pockets exceeding 42°C. Uttar Pradesh is also under the grip of persistent warm conditions with temperatures climbing to 40°C.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the weather presents a stark contrast; light rain and potential snowfall at higher altitudes are expected, with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 15°C. Ahmedabad stands out as one of the hottest cities today, recording a maximum temperature of 43°C.
The Delhi-NCR region has issued a yellow alert for high heat stress as temperatures hover between 40–42°C. This alarming rise in temperature is causing significant urban heat stress, leading to increased demand for electricity and impacting daily life.
As humidity levels rise alongside these temperatures, local health officials warn that the combination could lead to health risks for vulnerable populations. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.
The weather forecasts predict thunderstorms in various regions as well. Observers note that while some areas may see much-needed rain, it remains uncertain how widespread this precipitation will be.
As people navigate through these extreme conditions today, they remain hopeful for cooler weather soon. However, meteorologists have not confirmed any significant changes in the forecast for the coming days.
