UDF Kerala: Congress Poised to End LDF’s Rule in Kerala
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is likely to dash Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s hopes of securing a third consecutive term in Kerala. According to exit polls, the UDF is projected to win between 70-75 seats in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections.
In contrast, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is expected to secure around 60-65 seats, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) may only manage 3-5 seats. The majority mark in the Kerala Assembly stands at 71 seats, making this election pivotal for both major parties.
This election follows a historic verdict in 2021 when the LDF broke Kerala’s long-standing pattern of alternating governments every five years. Voter turnout this year was notably high at 78.27%, indicating strong public engagement.
“Exit polls are just predictions based on surveys and can turn out to be wrong on the result day (May 4),” said a local political analyst, highlighting the uncertainty that still looms over these forecasts.
The UDF aims to replace the LDF government currently in power. With Kerala having a total of 140 Assembly seats, every vote counts as both parties gear up for what promises to be a closely contested election.
As the results approach, many residents express hope for change. “We need a government that listens to our needs and addresses local issues,” shared Maria Joseph, a small business owner from Kochi. Her sentiment resonates with many others who feel that new leadership could bring fresh perspectives.
The next ruling is expected on May 12 in Thiruvananthapuram, where all eyes will be on how these predictions translate into actual results.
