Trichy East: Vijay to Contest in 2026 Elections

As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu heats up, Vijay, a prominent figure and founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has officially announced his candidacy for the Trichy East constituency in the upcoming 2026 elections. This announcement comes as the state prepares for elections on April 23, 2026, where all 234 Assembly constituencies will be contested.

Currently, Trichy East is held by Inigo S Irudayaraj of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who won the seat in 2021 by a significant margin of 53,797 votes. The competition is expected to be fierce, especially considering the urban-dominated nature of Trichy East and its large Christian voter base.

In the 2021 elections, the AIADMK’s Vellamandi N Natarajan finished second in Trichy East, garnering around 40,000 votes. This indicates a competitive atmosphere as Vijay aims to secure a win for his relatively new party, which was founded just two years ago in 2024.

Vijay has expressed confidence in his campaign, stating, “It’s only a two-sided fight between we, the people’s team and Stalin sir’s team.” He emphasizes the importance of integrity in politics, asserting, “I will not touch even one paisa of the people’s money,” and criticizing the experience of traditional politicians as having been used for personal gain.

In addition to Trichy East, Vijay will also contest from the Perambur constituency, hoping that running in two locations will increase his chances of success. Perambur is part of the Chennai North parliamentary constituency, where the DMK’s RD Sekar won by over 50,000 votes in 2021.

The upcoming elections are crucial not just for Vijay and the TVK, but also for the political dynamics in Tamil Nadu, particularly as the DMK seeks to maintain its hold on key constituencies like Trichy East. Vijay’s entry into the race signals a shift in the political narrative, as he positions himself as a fresh alternative to established parties.

As the election date approaches, the community in Trichy East is keenly watching how this contest unfolds. With Vijay’s commitment to the people and his focus on transparency, many are hopeful for a new direction in local governance.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full slate of candidates and the strategies each party will employ in the lead-up to the elections. However, the excitement and anticipation among voters are palpable as they prepare to make their voices heard in April 2026.
