Amritsar news: Explosions near military installations raise concerns in Punjab
Two separate low-intensity explosions occurred near military installations in Punjab within hours of each other, raising significant security concerns. The first explosion took place around 8 pm outside the BSF Headquarters in Jalandhar, while a second blast was reported at 10.50 pm near an Army establishment at Khasa in Amritsar.
Initial investigations reveal that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were used in both incidents. Fortunately, no casualties or major damage have been reported from these explosions.
The sequence of events unfolded as follows:
- The first explosion occurred when a parked scooter caught fire near the BSF headquarters.
- A second explosion was heard near the boundary wall of the Army cantonment area on Khasa road.
- Police received information about the loud sound on Khasa road at around 11.15 pm.
Amritsar Rural SSP Sohail Qasim Mir noted, “We observed a tin sheet mounted on the boundary wall had been damaged and had fallen.” He further mentioned that a tin sheet attached to the cantonment boundary wall was found damaged and had collapsed.
The Punjab Police, along with Army personnel, swiftly dispatched teams to investigate these incidents. Bomb disposal and forensic teams have also been deployed to examine the blast sites and collect evidence.
Authorities suspect that these explosions may be linked to Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to destabilize the region through its ISI. This adds another layer of urgency to the investigation.
As investigations continue, teams from the National Investigation Agency are en route to assist local authorities at the blast sites. However, uncertainties remain regarding the exact nature of these blasts and their broader implications for security in Punjab.
