Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Union Government Amid Protests
Mamata Banerjee has sharply criticized the Union government for the recent rise in cooking gas prices, which she claims is part of a broader pattern of harassment against ordinary citizens by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her comments come as women in West Bengal organized protests on International Women’s Day, highlighting their grievances over the escalating costs of essential commodities.
During her address, Banerjee stated, “While we have always stood by the people at every level, the Union government and the BJP seem intent only on harassing them.” This statement reflects her ongoing opposition to the central government’s policies, which she argues disproportionately affect the vulnerable sections of society.
In a related incident, Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao condemned Banerjee for what he described as a breach of protocol involving President Droupadi Murmu. Rao stated, “Mamata Banerjee insulted the President of India, and then tried to justify her actions… This breach of protocol was deliberate.” The tension between Banerjee and the BJP has escalated, particularly in the context of recent political events.
President Murmu expressed her disappointment regarding the arrangements at the International Santal Conference, which was originally scheduled to take place in Bidhannagar, Siliguri. The venue was changed to Goshaipur due to security concerns, and only Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb was present to receive her upon arrival. Murmu remarked, “I am very sad that the people here were unable to reach the conference because it was held so far away.”
