Litton das batting position change
Litton Das to Bat at Number Five
In a significant shift for the Bangladesh cricket team, Litton Das will bat at number five in the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan. This change comes as the team looks to bolster its middle order, which has faced challenges in recent matches.
Coach Phil Simmons confirmed the adjustment, stating that the decision was made with both Das’s form and the team’s needs in mind. Litton Das has struggled recently, failing to reach double figures in his last eight ODI innings, prompting the coaching staff to rethink his batting position.
Historically, Litton Das has had success batting at number five, notably scoring 94 not out against the West Indies during the 2019 ODI World Cup. Simmons expressed confidence that returning to this position could help rekindle Das’s form and provide stability to the batting lineup.
“He has been comfortable batting anywhere,” Simmons remarked, highlighting Das’s versatility. The coach emphasized that the change is not just about individual performance but also about addressing the broader issues within the team’s middle order, which Simmons described as “one of our Achilles heels.”
Furthermore, Simmons noted the difficulties faced by wicketkeepers who open the batting after keeping for 50 overs, suggesting that this switch could alleviate some of that pressure on Das.
“I think he’s a lot more relaxed with his game and he sees it as an opportunity to do what the team needs of him,” Simmons added, indicating that Das was receptive to the change. The coach clarified that the team did not have to convince Das extensively; he was willing to adapt for the benefit of the team.
As the series approaches, observers will be keen to see how this strategic adjustment impacts both Litton Das’s performance and the overall effectiveness of the Bangladesh batting order against Pakistan.
