Kullu: Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Tourists
What does the recent tragic accident in Kullu reveal about road safety in the region? At least seven tourists have lost their lives in two separate incidents involving a tempo traveller, raising urgent questions about the safety of travel in this popular tourist destination.
The first incident occurred when a vehicle carrying 20 tourists fell off the road near Sojha in Kullu district, resulting in three fatalities. The remaining passengers were promptly rescued and taken to a hospital in nearby Banjar.
In a subsequent accident, four tourists, including two women, died when their tempo traveller skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Banjar. This vehicle was returning from the scenic Jalori Pass, a popular spot for visitors.
In total, 22 people were on board the tempo traveller during the second accident, with 14 others sustaining injuries. Preliminary reports suggest that heavy rains may have contributed to the accidents, raising concerns about the impact of weather conditions on road safety.
The tourists involved were staying at a hotel in Jhibi, located about 10 kilometers from Banjar town, highlighting the challenges faced by travelers in navigating the region’s roads.
This tragic event is not isolated; earlier this year, a separate accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district claimed the lives of at least 14 people and injured over 35, further underscoring the need for improved road safety measures in the area.
As the community mourns the loss of lives, local authorities are urged to reassess safety protocols and implement necessary changes to prevent such tragedies in the future. The ongoing concern for the safety of tourists and residents alike remains a pressing issue.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the injuries and the ongoing investigation into the causes of these accidents. The community hopes for swift action to ensure safer travel conditions for all.
