Instagram Messages Outage: Thousands Report Issues
Instagram Messages Outage Reported
On March 11, 2023, an Instagram messages outage began affecting users around 2 AM in the United States and 7:40 AM IST in India. Reports of issues quickly surfaced, with thousands of users unable to send or receive messages on the platform.
According to Downdetector, over 10,000 complaints were logged regarding access issues on Instagram. The majority of these complaints, approximately 71 percent, were related to problems accessing the app itself. Additionally, 20 percent of users reported server connection issues, while 5 percent experienced difficulties with the Instagram feed or timeline not loading.
The outage appeared to have the highest concentration of problems in the United States, where users turned to other social media platforms to confirm the issue. Users in India also reported problems, with around 250 complaints noted at the time of data collection. In the United Kingdom, 170 reports of issues were recorded.
As the outage unfolded, users expressed their frustrations online. One user tweeted, “Are Instagram dms down or… am I cooked?” Another user lamented, “My messages, my contacts on Instagram, I can’t use the search tool or even scroll up! The whole thing is just broken right now.” Many users found themselves unable to continue conversations, with one stating, “Instagram went down in the middle of 3 different conversations.”
Despite the widespread issues, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not commented on the outage. The exact cause of the disruption remains unconfirmed, and there has been speculation about a potential link to the ongoing US-Iran war, although this has not been substantiated.
As of now, users continue to face challenges with Instagram messaging, and the situation is being closely monitored. Complaints peaked early in the morning on March 11, indicating a significant impact on user experience during that time.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the root cause of the outage and its implications for users. The situation highlights the reliance on social media platforms for communication and the disruptions that can arise when these services fail.
