Smart Electricity in Uttar Pradesh

Smart Electricity in Uttar Pradesh

Consumers in Uttar Pradesh can now breathe a little easier with the introduction of a new policy regarding prepaid smart meters. They will have 15 days to recharge their meters, alleviating the rush often associated with maintaining balance.

Previously, many faced abrupt power cuts when their balance ran low. This change aims to make the billing process smoother for electricity consumers across the state.

Key facts:

  • Prepaid smart meters will function similarly to postpaid ones.
  • Consumers will receive monthly bills and have 15 days for payment.
  • A facility for paying old outstanding bills in 10 easy installments is available until April 30.
  • Bills will be calculated based on usage from the first to the last day of each month.
  • Notifications will be sent directly to mobile phones via SMS and WhatsApp.

Energy Minister A.K. Sharma remarked, “This step has been taken keeping consumer convenience in mind.” He added, “Now the billing system will be easier than before, ensuring people receive timely information about their bills.”

Consumers can also file complaints through the 1912 portal if they encounter any issues related to smart meters or billing. In addition, the government plans to set up special camps to address problems linked to smart meters and billing.

With strict guidelines issued regarding electricity supply, officials expect these changes will enhance service reliability and customer satisfaction moving forward.
