Hyderabad Faces Heavy Rain and Fuel Panic Buying

On March 24, 2026, Hyderabad was significantly impacted by heavy rain and a hailstorm, causing traffic congestion throughout the city during peak evening hours. The downpour led to long queues of vehicles, particularly in the IT corridor around Gachibowli and Biodiversity Junction.

In response to the adverse weather conditions, Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari assured residents on March 25 that there is no fuel shortage in the district. She confirmed that all 181 petrol pumps in Hyderabad are fully operational and adequately stocked, alleviating initial concerns about fuel availability.

Despite these assurances, panic buying at fuel stations persisted for the third consecutive day, with many residents rushing to fill their tanks. By March 26, the situation at fuel stations began to improve in the afternoon, but challenges remained for specific groups.

LPG auto drivers faced particular difficulties in obtaining fuel, with reports indicating that they had been waiting in line since early morning. One driver, Mr. Nawaz, shared his experience, stating, “This line extends all the way to the railway line in Balkampet. We did not sleep, only had water. We will start taking rides after catching up with some sleep.”

The heavy rain on March 24 not only disrupted daily life but also raised concerns about the overall preparedness of the city for such weather events. Observers are keenly watching how the local government will respond to improve infrastructure and emergency services in light of this incident.

As the community begins to recover from the storm, residents are hopeful for clearer skies and a return to normalcy. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding any long-term impacts on the city’s infrastructure and emergency response capabilities.
