Venkatesh iyer: Bengaluru Welcomes to RCB for ₹7 Crore
In a significant move for the upcoming IPL season, Venkatesh Iyer has been signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for ₹7 crore. This acquisition comes on the heels of Iyer’s recent success, having won the IPL 2025 championship with Kolkata Knight Riders.
During the IPL 2025 season, Iyer scored 142 runs at an average of 20.28, a performance that, while below expectations, did not diminish his value in the eyes of RCB. Mo Bobat, the franchise’s director of cricket, emphasized the importance of bringing in a player of Iyer’s caliber, stating, “Adding a player of Venky’s quality, experience, and calibre is a no-brainer.”
The signing reflects RCB’s strategy to bolster their squad with experienced players, as Bobat noted, “We want competition for places.” This competitive spirit is expected to enhance the team’s performance in the upcoming season.
In addition to his IPL commitments, Iyer has also been retained by Indore Pink Panthers for ₹12.50 lakh, making him the most expensive player in the MPL 2026. His retention is viewed as a strategic decision, with Sandeep Jain, a representative of the team, commenting, “Retaining a dynamic and experienced player like Venkatesh Iyer at the highest price is a strategic decision.”
MPL 2026 is set to take place in Indore following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League, providing Iyer with a busy schedule ahead.
As Iyer transitions to RCB, observers are keen to see how he will adapt and perform in this new environment, especially after a mixed season in IPL 2025. His leadership role with Indore Pink Panthers adds another layer of responsibility as he balances both commitments.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how Iyer’s performance will evolve with RCB, but the anticipation surrounding his arrival is palpable among fans and analysts alike.
