Delhi: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi attends Wimbledon men’s singles final

Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi attended the Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final at the All England Club in London on Sunday. He watched the match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, where Sinner secured his second Wimbledon title. Sooryavanshi was accompanied by fellow cricketer Abhishek Sharma, with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also present at Centre Court.

The 15-year-old, who recently debuted for India, described the experience as memorable. This marked his first time watching a Grand Slam live, and he expressed his excitement about observing how players perform in a major final. Sooryavanshi’s attendance continued a notable Indian cricket presence at this year’s Championships.

Wimbledon experience and outfit details

Sooryavanshi was dressed in a formal black blazer, white shirt, striped tie, and tinted sunglasses. He admitted that his outfit for the occasion was arranged at the last minute. He credited Abhishek Sharma for helping him with the attire, stating, “I didn’t plan anything; whatever I could find in the last minute, I asked Abhishek and he got it arranged for me, and I just wore it.”

His visit to Wimbledon came after making his senior India debut in a recently concluded T20I series against England. At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi became India’s youngest international debutant, surpassing a long-standing record. India lost the five-match T20I series 0-4 against England.

Tennis inspirations and predictions

Sooryavanshi revealed his long-standing interest in tennis, having followed the sport for several years. He grew up watching legends like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, stating that he still admires Djokovic. Among the current generation of tennis players, he expressed admiration for Carlos Alcaraz, though Alcaraz was not playing in this year’s tournament.

Despite his admiration for Alcaraz, Sooryavanshi predicted that Jannik Sinner would win the Wimbledon trophy. He was impressed by Sinner’s dominance throughout the tournament. His prediction proved accurate as Sinner defeated Zverev with a score of 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

When asked about a potential doubles partner in tennis, Sooryavanshi light-heartedly chose Abhishek Sharma. He cited their partnership as opening batsmen in international cricket as the reason, stating, “I will go with Abhishek bhaiya. He is my opening partner in international cricket. I really enjoy batting with him a lot, so I will choose him as my doubles tennis partner as well.”

Indian cricket presence at Wimbledon

Sooryavanshi’s attendance at the final was part of a strong Indian cricket presence at Wimbledon this year. Earlier in the week, batting great Sachin Tendulkar and India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill attended the men’s singles semi-finals from the Royal Box. Tendulkar was returning to one of his favourite sporting events, while Gill experienced Wimbledon for the first time.

The final day saw the spotlight shift to the next generation of cricketers, with Sooryavanshi joining Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson. Their appearance followed India’s five-match T20I series against England, which concluded with India suffering a 0-4 defeat.

Sooryavanshi was already in the United Kingdom following his senior India debut in the recently concluded T20I series against England.
