Thakkali Srinivasan Passes Away at 72

“Deeply regret to inform that Producer/Director/Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru,” said Nikil Murukan, confirming the news of the filmmaker’s death on March 10, 2026.

Srinivasan, who was 72 years old at the time of his passing, was a significant figure in Tamil cinema, known for his multifaceted contributions as a producer, director, composer, and actor. He began his career in the film industry with the production of Ivargal Varungala Thoongal in 1987, which marked the start of a prolific journey.

Throughout his career, Srinivasan produced several landmark films, including Manasukul Mathappu (1988), Nalaya Manithan (1989), and Witness (1995). He also directed and composed music for Jenma Natchathiram, a remake of the well-known horror film The Omen.

In addition to his work behind the camera, Srinivasan played notable roles in films, including portraying the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan-starrer Soora Samharam.

In his later years, Srinivasan shifted focus towards philanthropy, running an ashram where he lived with his adopted children. This aspect of his life highlighted his commitment to giving back to the community.

His last directorial project was Aduthathu, inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None. This film was a testament to his enduring creativity and passion for storytelling.

Srinivasan’s contributions to the film industry have left an indelible mark, and his legacy will be remembered by fans and colleagues alike. His final rites are scheduled to be performed in Bengaluru on March 11, 2026.
