Real Madrid’s Bid for Yan Diomande Rejected, Other Clubs Interested

Real Madrid has reportedly had an initial bid rejected for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The offer for the player included an initial fee, along with additional add-ons. Despite the rejection, negotiations are said to be ongoing, with growing optimism that a transfer could be completed in the coming days.

Sources close to the potential deal describe the situation as an open race, with six weeks remaining in the transfer window. Real Madrid has entered the discussions with an offer amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of Vinicius Junior.

Interest from Multiple Clubs

Liverpool has also expressed an interest in Diomande, indicating a willingness to offer a significant amount for the winger. This potential fee from Liverpool could surpass the Premier League’s record transfer for a teenager, which involved Manchester United agreeing to sign Leny Yoro from Lille in the summer of 2024.

Other major clubs, including Paris St-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester City, also maintain an interest in Diomande. Earlier this summer, Diomande reportedly indicated a preference to move to PSG. However, Leipzig is reportedly only willing to sell for an exceptional fee, and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has held talks with the German club.

Manchester City and Arsenal are both said to have made approaches for Diomande over the last 10 days.

Diomande’s Past Comments Resurface

Old comments made by Diomande regarding Real Madrid and refereeing have recently resurfaced as a potential move to the Spanish club draws closer. The Leipzig player is considered a prominent target for Real Madrid in the current summer window.

Diomande previously commented on officiating during a La Liga match between his former club, Leganes, and Real Madrid. He claimed that the Spanish giants consistently benefit from refereeing decisions. The player, who is 19, is reportedly nearing a move to the Bernabeu.

Diomande is familiar with the Spanish league, having played for Leganes before joining Leipzig in 2025. He faced Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu during his final La Liga season in 2024-2025. Real Madrid won that match 3-2, a game that was not without controversy. Leganes strongly protested when the referee allowed play to continue in the 94th minute following a collision between defender Raul Asencio and Diomande, with the visiting team appealing for a penalty.

Speaking at the time to the programme “El Chiringuito,” in comments republished by “Mundo Deportivo,” Diomande expressed his astonishment. He stated, “I don’t know why the referee didn’t award the penalty.” His frustration with the officiating extended further, as he added, “I think the officiating was bad, there was no foul in Mbappe’s favour, and the penalty we demanded was not awarded either.” He then made a pointed remark about Real Madrid, saying, “Real Madrid is always like this,” implying they benefit from refereeing decisions. These remarks have been widely shared on social media, prompting questions about how Real Madrid’s management will react.

Impact on Real Madrid’s Squad

The potential acquisition of Diomande aligns with José Mourinho’s objective to enhance his team’s attack with more pace, dynamism, and one-on-one ability. Diomande is expected to primarily operate from the right wing. Should the transfer be finalised, it could raise questions about the futures of Endrick, Franco Mastantuono, and Brahim Díaz, all of whom are competing for attacking minutes.

The timing of these developments is also noteworthy. Earlier reports linked Arsenal with a possible move for Vinícius Jr. if contract negotiations were to stall. While there is no indication that these situations are directly connected, Diomande’s arrival would further strengthen Real Madrid’s attacking depth and could influence the club’s long-term plans for its frontline. This potential signing would represent another assertive move in the transfer market, as Real Madrid continues to reshape Mourinho’s squad.

Diomande’s senior career began with half a dozen starts for Leganes at the end of their LaLiga season, where he scored in two of those six games against Espanyol and Valladolid.
