Harare: Shreyas Iyer leads India to T20I series victory over Zimbabwe
India captain Shreyas Iyer described the team’s T20I series sweep against Zimbabwe as a “special moment.” India secured a 3-0 victory, with Iyer highlighting the fearless approach and maturity of the young players. The final match took place at the Harare Sports Club, where India won by 35 runs.
In the third and final T20I, India posted 192/5 and then restricted Zimbabwe to 157/7. Iyer praised the energy and intent demonstrated by the players throughout the series, noting that such qualities are essential for a captain and a team, especially during back-to-back games.

Iyer, reflecting on his role as a senior player, mentioned that many teammates possess significant experience, partly due to their participation in the IPL. He stressed that his primary responsibility is to ensure players feel comfortable and relaxed on the field, which he believes helps them perform at their best. He noted that his own match count is similar to many of his teammates, around 55 to 60 games.
The Indian batting lineup in the final match saw Vaibhav Sooryavanshi score 81 runs off 49 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Ishan Kishan contributed 29 runs, Iyer added 27 runs off 18 balls, and Rinku Singh scored 25 runs off 14 deliveries, helping India reach their total.
Bowling Performance and Captaincy Record
Zimbabwe’s chase faced an early setback when Yash Thakur dismissed Brian Bennett with the first ball of the innings. Thakur also removed Dion Myers and Sikandar Raza during his initial spell. Mayank Yadav finished with figures of 3/29, while Ravi Bishnoi and Ashok Sharma each took one wicket. Despite Ryan Burl’s unbeaten 54, Zimbabwe could not reach the target.
Before the opening T20I against Zimbabwe, Shreyas Iyer achieved a unique captaincy milestone. He won the toss, marking his eighth consecutive toss win as captain in T20 Internationals. This streak places him ahead of former captain MS Dhoni, who had a previous best of seven consecutive toss wins.
