Bhopal: Shashank Singh denies assault allegations after FIR against him, father
Allegations and FIR
Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh and his father, Shailesh Singh, along with their driver, are currently under police investigation following an FIR registered against them in Bhopal. The complaint was filed by their former domestic cook, Vipendra Singh Tomar, who alleges assault, verbal abuse, and wrongful confinement. The Ratibad police have initiated an investigation under Sections 296(B), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Tomar, a resident of Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, claims he began working at the Singh family’s residence in Neelbad on June 25. He stated he was promised a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, along with food and accommodation. According to Tomar’s complaint, he was later informed of shortcomings in his work and his mobile phone was taken away. The situation reportedly escalated on June 28 when he requested his phone back.
Tomar alleges that after preparing breakfast, he asked Shailesh Singh to return his mobile phone, but the request was refused. He claims that Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh, and their driver subsequently entered his room, abused him, and assaulted him with their hands and fists before forcing him out of the house. Additionally, Tomar alleged that Rs 1,000 was transferred from his mobile phone, with the accused stating the amount was deducted for food and accommodation expenses. A medical examination reportedly found visible injuries on Tomar.
Shashank Singh’s Response
Shashank Singh has publicly denied the allegations of assault and holding Tomar against his will. He stated that the family did not hold Tomar hostage. Shashank claimed that Tomar, who presented himself as a cook, did not know how to cook and was instead taking videos and photos inside the house, including in his room. Shashank expressed suspicion that Tomar’s intention might have been to steal, though he noted that nothing had been found stolen after initial checks.

Regarding the confiscated phone, Shashank explained that it contained videos and photos of the house, which his mother had Tomar delete due to privacy concerns. He also mentioned that the police have not yet contacted him regarding the matter. Shashank further stated that his sister had considered calling the police when they discovered Tomar taking photos and videos, but they let him go after he pleaded.
Shashank rejected the allegations of physical altercation and abusive language, stating that anyone familiar with him would know such actions are out of character. He also questioned the timeline of events, noting that Tomar arrived on the evening of June 25 and left on the morning of June 28, which he believes contradicts the claim of being held hostage. Shashank also alleged that Tomar had misrepresented his cooking skills and later admitted he could not prepare the dishes he initially claimed. He also claimed that Tomar recorded videos in private areas of the family’s residence, including bedrooms where expensive items were kept, and sent them to others. Shashank stated that Tomar had been recommended by an acquaintance of his father and had requested an advance payment of Rs 20,000 shortly after arriving.
The matter remains under police investigation.
