In a heartbreaking incident, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, a beloved figure in the Bengali film and television industry, died while shooting for a series titled ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’ off Talsari beach in Digha, Odisha. The 43-year-old actor was declared dead at a local hospital after being rescued from the sea.
The incident occurred during a shoot in knee-deep water, where crew members reported that Banerjee was drowning. Despite their efforts to pull him out, he was brought to the hospital at 6:10 PM, but unfortunately, it was too late.
Rahul, who made his debut in the 2009 movie ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’, was known for his vibrant presence on screen and his contributions to the Bengali entertainment scene. He is survived by his wife and a 13-year-old son, leaving a profound void in their lives.
Following the tragedy, a case of unnatural death has been registered by the police, who are investigating whether safety protocols were followed during the shoot. The exact circumstances of his drowning remain unclear, and the cause of death is pending the post-mortem report.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, stating, “This news has left me stunned, heartbroken, and grief-stricken. He was one of my favourite actors and a wonderful person.” Her sentiments resonate deeply within the community, as many remember Banerjee not only for his talent but also for his kindness.
Sudipta Chakraborty, a fellow actor, shared, “Rahul had a heart of gold. He stood up for me and voiced his opinion against internet hooliganism,” highlighting the impact he had on those around him.
Diganta Bagchi, a crew member present during the incident, recounted the frantic moments, saying, “Crew was shouting, pulled him out of the sea.” This tragic event has left the film community and fans in shock, mourning the loss of a cherished talent.
