Pat Cummins Faces Recovery Challenges Ahead of IPL 2026

Pat Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been managing a back issue since last year, which has significantly impacted his playing time. Having participated in only one competitive match since July, Cummins is now focused on his recovery as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season approaches.

The IPL 2026 season is set to begin on Saturday, but unfortunately, Cummins has confirmed that he will miss the start of the tournament. “I won’t make the start of that, but it shouldn’t be too long before I’m back out there playing,” he stated, offering a glimmer of hope to fans and teammates alike.

Currently, Cummins is back bowling in the nets every third day, a positive sign in his recovery journey. “I’m still recovering from a back injury, but it’s good. I’m back bowling in the nets,” he shared. His determination to return to form is evident, as he has mapped out a plan to be ready by the middle of the tournament.

Should everything go according to plan, Cummins aims to play in the latter half of IPL 2026, including the finals. “We’ve mapped out a plan to get me right by (the) middle of the tournament, so hopefully, if nothing goes wrong, (I will) play the back half plus the finals,” he expressed.

In Cummins’ absence, Ishan Kishan has been appointed as the interim captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kishan has had a successful captaincy stint with his local side over the past year, and his leadership will be crucial as the team navigates the early part of the season.

Additionally, Cummins has faced setbacks in his international career, as he was unable to participate in the T20 World Cup due to his ongoing recovery. The Bangladesh series, which runs from August 13 to 26, will also be a challenge for him to miss.

Sunrisers Hyderabad last celebrated an IPL victory in 2016, and the team is eager to reclaim its former glory. With Cummins’ leadership and experience, his return could be pivotal for the team’s aspirations.

As the cricket community watches closely, the hope remains that Cummins will make a successful return to the field, inspiring both his team and fans with his resilience and determination.
