Oracle India Severance Leaked: 12,000 Roles Impacted
Oracle has initiated significant job cuts, impacting 30,000 employees worldwide, with 12,000 roles terminated in India. This restructuring move has raised concerns among the workforce, particularly as the company continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence and automation tools.
Indian employees affected by the layoffs are set to receive 15 days’ salary per year of service, along with other benefits. In comparison, US employees are offered a more generous severance package, starting with four weeks’ salary for the first year and increasing by one week for each subsequent year, up to a maximum of 26 weeks.
For those in India, the total compensation could reach up to six months of salary, which includes notice period pay and an ex-gratia amount. Additionally, employees may receive health insurance coverage worth around Rs 20,000.
Unused leave balances and gratuity payments will be processed separately, ensuring that employees receive what they are owed. The layoffs have impacted various job categories, including engineering, architecture, operations, and program management.
Importantly, performance was not necessarily a factor in these layoffs, as the company has stated that the individuals affected were not let go because of anything they did or didn’t do. This has added a layer of complexity to the emotional toll on those losing their jobs.
The layoffs are part of a wider global restructuring initiative, yet the company has not confirmed the total number of job cuts. Details remain unconfirmed, leaving many employees anxious about their futures.
As Oracle navigates this challenging transition, observers are keen to see how the company will support its employees during this difficult time and what further steps it may take in the coming months.
