Naan Mudhalvan: Tamil Nadu’s Civil Services Success Stories
“As an IAS officer, I want to improve the service delivery systems so govt programmes reach people more effectively,” stated Rajeshwari Suve, who achieved All-India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025.
Suve’s accomplishment is part of a broader trend in Tamil Nadu, where 56 candidates cleared the Civil Services Examination this year, showcasing the effectiveness of the Naan Mudhalvan scheme. This initiative, aimed at enhancing the preparation of civil service aspirants, has provided residential coaching to 39 candidates, including Suve.
Rajeshwari Suve, an engineering graduate from Anna University, Chennai, is currently serving as a deputy collector in Dindigul district. Her journey to success was marked by perseverance; she attempted the UPSC exam three times before shifting her focus to TNPSC exams.
A R Rajah Mohaideen, who secured All-India Rank 7, echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “The Covid pandemic made me think of becoming a civil servant.” His proactive approach included forming a Telegram group for joint preparation with fellow aspirants from Tamil Nadu.
In addition to Suve and Mohaideen, Sruthi R also made headlines with an impressive All-India Rank of 18. The collective success of these candidates highlights the impact of structured coaching and community support.
T Sankara Saravanan noted, “While 39 candidates, including Rajeshwari Suve, were residential aspirants, 17, including Rajah Moideen, received fellowship.” This indicates the diverse pathways available for aspirants under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme.
S Boominathan, a mentor for these candidates, remarked, “We expected around 80 candidates to be selected this year. However, we got better results in terms of ranks.” This reflects the growing competitiveness and preparation levels among Tamil Nadu’s civil service aspirants.
The Naan Mudhalvan scheme has been pivotal in shaping the careers of many young individuals in Tamil Nadu, contributing to a legacy of excellence in civil services. Tamil Nadu previously produced a national topper in the Civil Services Examination in 2010, setting a high standard for future candidates.
As the success stories continue to emerge, the focus remains on sustaining this momentum and further enhancing the support systems for aspiring civil servants in the state.
