Maharashtra police respond to oleum gas leak in Palghar

On March 2, 2026, the Maharashtra police registered an FIR regarding an oleum gas leak in Palghar, leading to the evacuation of approximately 200 people from the factory compound. The incident was reported around 2 PM, and the FIR was filed under Sections 280, 125, 286, and 289 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh confirmed that there was no life-threatening situation at the leakage spot, stating, “There is nothing like a life-threatening (situation) at the leakage spot right now.” This reassurance came as emergency services worked to manage the situation effectively.

The oleum gas leak incident occurred in the Tarapur Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area, which has been a focal point for industrial activities in the region. Authorities acted swiftly to ensure the safety of nearby residents and workers.

In a separate incident, a Gujarat resident was arrested for allegedly allowing fraudsters to use his bank account in a scam that cheated a 77-year-old man out of ₹2.25 crore. The victim was reportedly threatened with claims that his name was involved in a terrorism investigation, specifically referencing the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

A police officer from the North Cyber police station stated, “We have taken custody of the account holder and are trying to find out more about the fraudsters.” This highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat financial crimes in the region.

As the festival of Holi approached, the Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and eco-friendly. She made this appeal during a program organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation called ‘Flowers Holi’ at Rajawadi Garden in Ghatkopar.

The Maharashtra police have increased their deployment during the Holi celebrations to prevent illegal activities, ensuring a safe environment for all participants.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments related to the oleum gas leak or the ongoing investigation into the fraud case. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
