Kumaun University Appoints New Deputy Controller of Examinations in Nainital
Kumaun University in Nainital has made a significant move by appointing Nandan Singh Bisht as the new deputy controller of examinations on March 24, 2026. This appointment comes alongside the university’s approval of a comprehensive screening system aimed at enhancing faculty evaluation.
The newly implemented faculty evaluation system operates on a 100-point scale, setting clear benchmarks for academic performance. Teachers who score below 60 percent will face consequences, including withheld salary increases and potential compulsory retirement. Conversely, those who achieve above 75 percent will be recognized with a certificate of appreciation.
In addition to these measures, each faculty member is now required to present at least once at a national or international conference, fostering a culture of engagement and knowledge sharing. Stricter criteria have also been established for advanced research degrees such as D.Sc. and D.Litt., ensuring that the university maintains high academic standards.
During a recent meeting, the university also approved the promotion of seven teachers under the Career Advancement Scheme, reflecting a commitment to rewarding excellence within the faculty. These decisions are part of a broader initiative to enhance academic excellence, research quality, transparency, and accountability at Kumaun University.
Diwan Singh Rawat, a key figure in this initiative, stated, “These decisions taken as a whole, represent an important initiative toward strengthening academic excellence, research quality, transparency and accountability at the university.” This sentiment reflects the university’s dedication to fostering a robust academic environment.
The changes at Kumaun University come at a time when Uttarakhand’s multiethnic population, which includes a significant number of individuals from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, is increasingly seeking quality education and opportunities for advancement. By implementing these new standards, the university aims to better serve its diverse community.
As the university moves forward with these initiatives, the local community and stakeholders are eager to see the positive impact on educational outcomes and faculty performance. The commitment to high standards and accountability is expected to resonate throughout the academic landscape in Uttarakhand.
With these developments, Kumaun University is poised to not only enhance its reputation but also contribute significantly to the educational fabric of the region, ensuring that it remains a vital institution for years to come.
