Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru Implements Contactless Passenger Journey System
Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has successfully completed technical trials of a fully contactless passenger journey system. This innovative initiative aims to enhance the international travel experience by minimizing physical interactions, ensuring a seamless and secure process for travelers.
The trials were conducted in collaboration with major industry players including IndiGo, the Digi Yatra Foundation, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Together, they showcased an end-to-end digital journey powered by biometric identification, setting a new standard for air travel.
This initiative is part of IATA’s global proof-of-concept programme, positioning Kempegowda International Airport at the forefront of next-generation aviation technology. Notably, it is the only airport in India currently involved in this significant initiative.
Previously, the airport had introduced the Digi Yatra platform for domestic travel, which laid the groundwork for this latest advancement. The successful implementation of the contactless system reflects a growing trend in the aviation industry towards enhancing passenger convenience and safety.
In a separate incident, a bomb threat email sent to the airport’s Customer Engagement Centre was determined to be a hoax, ensuring that operations remained unaffected. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and security in maintaining a safe travel environment.
As Kempegowda International Airport continues to innovate, observers are eager to see how these advancements will shape the future of air travel. The airport’s commitment to enhancing the passenger experience through technology is a promising development for travelers in Bengaluru and beyond.
