Nepal Triumphs Over UAE in ICC CWC League 2 Match
Nepal secured a significant victory in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 42 runs in a match held in Dubai on March 7, 2026. This win is crucial for Nepal as they aim to solidify their position in the league and retain their One Day International (ODI) status.
After winning the toss, Nepal opted to bat first, posting a total of 229 runs. Bhim Sarki was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 70 runs, while Aarif Sheikh contributed a valuable 43 runs to the team’s total. The performance with the bat set a competitive target for the UAE.
In response, the UAE struggled to build partnerships and was ultimately bowled out for 187 runs in 45 overs. Asif Khan and Aryan Lakra were the only notable scorers for the UAE, making 82 and 50 runs respectively. However, Nepal’s bowlers, led by Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh Airee, who each took 3 wickets, effectively dismantled the UAE batting lineup.
This victory propelled Nepal to the 5th position in the points table of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. With this win, Nepal is now in a stronger position to qualify for the World Cup qualifiers, needing to secure victories in their remaining matches.
Scotland and Oman have already qualified for the World Cup, accumulating 50 and 44 points respectively. Nepal’s path to qualification is clear: they must win their next two matches to ensure they retain their ODI status.
The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India starting from October 2026, and Nepal’s performance in the upcoming matches will be critical in determining their participation in this prestigious tournament.
As the cricketing world turns its attention to the T20 World Cup final between India and New Zealand on March 8, 2026, Nepal’s recent win adds excitement to the ongoing ICC CWC League 2, with fans eagerly anticipating the outcomes of the remaining matches.
