Dhruva Natchathiram finally receives clearance for release
After 13 years of delays, Gautham Vasudev Menon’s film Dhruva Natchathiram has finally received clearance for release from the Madras High Court. This long-awaited decision came on May 1, 2026, under the watchful eye of Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy.
The film, which stars Vikram and boasts a hefty budget of Rs.80 Crores, faced numerous hurdles over the years. Financial constraints and the Covid-19 pandemic played significant roles in its prolonged struggle for release. The court’s order ensures that the film’s revenue will be managed through an escrow account, a move aimed at protecting all stakeholders involved.
Gautham Vasudev Menon expressed his gratitude after this landmark ruling. He stated, “There’s light at the end of the tunnel.” He further emphasized the importance of this decision as a potential benchmark for other films facing similar challenges in Tamil cinema.
The film features a character named John who leads a specialized unit formed in response to the Mumbai terror attacks. This narrative is enriched by contributions from three cinematographers: Manoj Paramahamsa, SR Kathir, and Vishnu Dev, with editing handled by Anthony and music composed by Harris Jayaraj.
Key cast members include:
- Vikram
- Ritu Varma
- Radhakrishnan Parthiban
- Simran
The team behind Dhruva Natchathiram is relieved to see their hard work recognized after such a tumultuous journey. They expressed appreciation for Justice Ramamoorthy’s dedication, noting that he spent considerable time bringing all parties to consensus before passing the order.
Menon reflected on the challenges he faced during this process: “Some men tried to destroy my career and stop my film from releasing, a film that’s also the work of more than a hundred people.” His commitment to seeing this project through has now paid off.
This ruling not only marks a significant milestone for Menon and his team but also serves as a hopeful sign for others in the industry facing similar financial struggles.
