Commercial cylinder price hits all-time high in Bengaluru

“A price hike in all food items in restaurants and eateries is inevitable,” said P. C. Rao, President of the Bengaluru Hotels’ Association, as the city grapples with soaring commercial LPG cylinder prices.

The cost of a commercial gas cylinder jumped by ₹993 on April 30, bringing the total to ₹3,152—the highest ever recorded in Bengaluru.

This significant increase places additional economic strain on local restaurants and small food businesses already feeling the pinch from rising operational costs. Rao emphasized that the surge in LPG prices directly impacts their ability to maintain current pricing for customers.

Many restaurant owners are concerned about how these hikes will affect their profit margins and customer footfall. With the government shielding households from domestic LPG price rises, commercial kitchens are left to absorb the brunt of these costs.

“We can’t keep raising prices indefinitely; our customers have limits too,” Rao added. The ongoing West Asia crisis has exacerbated these challenges, leading to increased fuel costs worldwide.

The ripple effects are already visible across various eateries in Bengaluru, as many establishments prepare to adjust menu prices. Small food businesses, often operating on thin margins, may struggle to survive if they cannot keep up with rising expenses.

As this situation unfolds, restaurant owners are left weighing their options carefully—some may opt for smaller portions or less expensive ingredients to mitigate costs.

The economic landscape for food businesses in Bengaluru is shifting rapidly due to these developments, leaving many wondering how they will adapt in the coming weeks.
