Arshdeep Singh Fined for Code of Conduct Breach
Arshdeep Singh was fined 15 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand. The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings, where Singh threw the ball aggressively towards Daryl Mitchell, hitting his pads.
The breach relates to throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate manner, as outlined in Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. As a result of this action, one demerit point was added to Singh’s disciplinary record.
This was Singh’s first offence in a 24-month period, and he accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft, which eliminated the need for a formal hearing.
India emerged victorious in the final, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, clinching a record-breaking third T20 World Cup title.
The ICC Code of Conduct states that players must avoid throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.
Singh’s actions, while not malicious, were deemed inappropriate in the context of the match. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and discipline on the field.
As cricket continues to evolve, the ICC remains vigilant in enforcing its Code of Conduct to ensure fair play and respect among players.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further implications for Singh’s playing status or future matches following this incident.
Observers will be watching closely to see how Singh’s performance is affected by this fine and demerit point as he continues his career in international cricket.
