Petrol News: Gujarat Government Assures Fuel Availability Amid Panic Buying
In recent days, Gujarat has witnessed a surge in panic buying at petrol pumps, fueled by rumors of a potential fuel shortage. This situation has raised concerns among residents, prompting many to rush to fill their tanks. At one point, families were calling relatives, asking them to rush and refill tanks, highlighting the community’s anxiety over fuel availability.
In response to these concerns, the Gujarat government has stepped in to reassure the public. Officials have confirmed that there is sufficient stock of petrol and diesel available across the state. Mona Khandhar, a representative from the government, stated, “Sufficient quantities of petrol and diesel are available at all petrol pumps in the state as per requirement.” This statement aims to quell fears and encourage calm among citizens.
Additionally, the Indian Oil Corporation has confirmed that supplies to retail outlets are continuing smoothly, further supporting the government’s assurances. However, it has been noted that recent operational changes in fuel distribution have led to some disruptions. Dealers reported that advance payments are now required for fuel deliveries, which has altered the replenishment cycles at some petrol pumps.
Mehul Patel, a local dealer, explained, “Earlier, dealers would pay after receiving fuel deliveries. Now, payments have to be made in advance as companies require liquidity.” This shift has contributed to temporary rationing at some stations, with a cap of 200 liters for two-wheelers being imposed to manage the increased demand.
The state government has also warned that legal action will be taken against dealers who keep their pumps closed despite having stock available. Citizens have been urged not to panic or queue unnecessarily at petrol stations, as adequate fuel is indeed available.
Despite the initial chaos, the President of the Petroleum Dealers Association of India reassured the public, stating, “There is no fuel shortage in Gujarat and none is expected in the future.” This sentiment reflects a growing confidence among officials that the situation will stabilize as communication improves and supply chains are adjusted.
